Running a restaurant, grocery store, or food business is energy-intensive and expensive. According to the Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey, food service and food sales businesses use around two and half times more electricity per square foot than the commercial average. That heavy energy use, combined with high operating costs, often makes replacing old equipment a real challenge. In fact, we frequently find equipment from the 1950s still in operation!
The PACE Refrigeration and Restaurant Equipment Grant is designed to help small, locally owned restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, liquor stores, and caterers in Boulder County upgrade to modern, energy-efficient equipment. The program also supports businesses transitioning from gas-powered cooking equipment to clean, electric alternatives.
Benefits of upgrading include:
- Lower energy bills
- More reliable equipment
- Less maintenance
- Improved aesthetics
- Improved workplace comfort
- Improved food safety
- Reduced energy use and greenhouse gas emissions
Through this grant, PACE removes common barriers, like high upfront costs and complicated logistics, so your business can enjoy the savings and reliability of efficient equipment while supporting Boulder County’s sustainability goals.
As part of the program, your PACE advisor will also help you identify additional opportunities for water conservation, waste reduction, and other upgrades.
